There’s no future and there’s no past when you’re on stage. There’s that feeling when I hit a note where all that wittering goes quiet. It’s a way of being out of control that is in your control. So the two things that I’m fighting against in the songs, the chaos and the control, are united and it’s…then it’s over and it all goes dumdumdum and you are back to being you. I can communicate things through songs that I can’t otherwise.
"I’ve spent a lot of time in tiny venues in the way that I got my record deal and got my name out there just performing live. I was literally performing my songs in all kinds of different ways with different guitarists, and I didn’t have an album up online or anything. It’s been a lot of work; it definitely hasn’t been a sudden explosion into fame."
